The Coleman family is one of the original hop-farming families in Western, Oregon, arriving in the Willamette Valley off the Oregon Trail in the 1800s. What began as a small family farming operation has grown into Coleman Agriculture, one of the region's most respected and diverse agricultural enterprises. Today, the family manages more than 800 hectares of hops across multiple farms, making it one of Oregon's largest and most varied hop operations.

Hop farming at Coleman Agriculture is guided by generations of accumulated knowledge and a forward-looking mindset. Tom and Ben Coleman draw on over 100 years of family-farming experience while continually adapting to the evolving needs of brewers and the industry. Their farms produce a range of hop varieties, hazelnuts, grass seed, and other crops shaped by distinct soils and microclimates throughout the valley.

Coleman hops have earned industry recognition for quality, including Yakima Chief Top Cut Awards and the Cascade Cup. In 2022, Bill Coleman received the prestigious International Order of the Hop Award, underscoring the family's leadership and commitment to hop industry excellence.

Yakima Chief has been a great partner, even before we were owners. We like the transparency we get as owners, and Yakima Chief has been great at putting the growers forward, helping us to meet the brewers.

I grew up on the farm, and we didn't have brewers that came out to the farm; we just dried hops, put them in a bale, and they went somewhere. Now we get to meet these people, converse, and make connections. It's a really cool side of growing for Yakima Chief.
