Double ‘R’ Hop Ranches
The Riel family has been a part of the Yakima Valley community since the 1890’s, when Wilfred Riel arrived from Canada and began working at the Moxee Hop Company. The early connection shaped the family’s future when his sons took their first steps as farmers by leasing land on the Yakama Reservation, laying the groundwork for a multi-generational legacy.
In 1945, Willie Riel moved his family and farming operations to Harrah, Washington, and established Double ‘R’ Hop Ranches. Under Willie’s leadership, the farm grew into a diversified agricultural operation producing hops, potatoes, apples, and cattle. His sons, Jerome and Leonard, carried on the family business, working alongside their father and expanding both knowledge and scale. Over time, hops emerged as the crop of choice for the operation, anchoring the family’s identity in the Yakima Valley.
Today, Double ‘R’ Hop Ranches is owned and operated by grandsons Kevin, Keith, and Steve Riel, alongside fifth-generation family members Jessica and Zackary, who are now actively shaping the direction and future of the business. With more than a century of combined hop-growing experience, the Riel family remains focused on producing high-quality hops for brewers worldwide. Committed to food safety, environmental responsibility, and long-term stewardship, Double ‘R’ maintains Global G.A.P. certification across its hop production and continues to build on a legacy rooted in hard work, quality, and family.
